There are situations where it is desirable to pop up some supplementary information, such as information about page author,
a sitemap or an subsidiary menu.
But usual dhtml window widgets are not able to realize the task anymore.
They might be blocked by browsers and generally are an irritability to the user.
It is better to show a popup box with this info directly on the page, partly hiding the page content.
The javascript sample on this page helps to reach that. It borrows some ideas from AJAX technology.
It might be enticing to use the script to create main site menus.
